Multiple Six Figure Workshops: The One Where I Couldn’t Eat Solid Food

I was so scared I couldn’t eat solid food.
Not figuratively.

There just wasn’t any saliva in my mouth….at all.

And, well, I don’t really know how all that works on a physical level.

I just know the eating food wasn’t an option.
I could drink juice. Greeeeat.

This was NOT what I was expecting.

I thought the scariest part of hosting my first live event would
be just making sure a few people ATTENDED.

But now here we were AT the event, and people
had come from near and far…
from California, and New York, and Canada, and Argentina!

And I found myself in a pickle I had not prepared for…
NERVES delivering the workshop.
What if no one wanted to work with me in the end?

Oh for the love of Pete!!!!
This really threw me for a loop.

Nerves are my blessing and my nemesis.
Maybe you can relate?

BTW if you’re ready to rock a workshop AND be able to eat solid food I can TOTALLY show you how. 

Now up to this point, I knew a few things about my nerves.

1. Nerves help me prepare because I don’t want to let myself or other people down. I want to do a good job.

2. They help me stay energized, because I have lots of adrenaline pumping through my veins.

3. They always go away. Once I get into the flow, it’s all going to be okay.

So I was pretty perplexed when this time,
these nerves did NOT calm.

Not after the first five minutes on stage,
not after the first hour session.
Not at all.

They just stuck with me like my new best friend.

So I had a choice… give up and go home,
or surrender to it. So I surrendered.

I was beyond calming my nerves at this point.
I had to move forward with them.

Now in a moment I’ll share with you how this NEVER happened again.

And therefore why I know it won’t happen to YOU.

But before I do let me share with you
three keys to hosting your own big event or small workshop that generates an annual income in a weekend.

First, if I haven’t scared you away

Second, it’s extremely unlikely you’ll ever feel the level of nerves I did,
because I really, truly have a magical way with nerves.
I’m prolific. 😉 and because I learned what to do instead.

Third, should you ever have intense nerves,
this is when you’ll be SO GRATEFUL (as I was) that you’ve
strategically created the your workshop to create impact & sales.

I always say, “A good strategy can save you from your imperfections.”.

And thankfully, this is super true at an event or workshop!

My first little strategy shift ever– at a small local workshop —
was just to make an offer of ANY kind at my workshop —
which I’d never done before.

Yes, of course my knees were knockin, but still it
took my little $3K workshop to $18,000.00.


The next workshop I lead was actually a multi-day event
and it generated around $250,000.00.

And that event my friends, is “the one where I couldn’t eat”.

So all is well that ends with $250,000 and a steak dinner!

The next workshop after that? $355,000.00.

This is starting to sound like a good idea right?

Of course, I want to help you generate several months’ or
even a year’s income from your workshop too (without all the stress)

Most people don’t have a content strategy at all.
They just teach everything they know at their workshop
and then say goodbye.

Maybe that sounds familiar?

I did that for a couple of YEARS.
Just flat out leaving money on the table.

So rule #1 when you want to Rock Your Workshop is ALWAYS HAVE AN OFFER.

Consider what people will need NEXT on their journey,
and know that it’s your responsibility to at least make it available to them!

That’s our job if we really want to help people, right?!

Okay so let’s talk about two key shifts I made after my
nerve-bending $250K event— “one where I couldn’t eat”.

In intense situations, actively create a plan AHEAD OF TIME

to stay calm & get centered.

For me this means no one in and out my hotel room, except my inner circle.

Enjoy a few minutes to meditate or sit in silence on breaks.

My hotel room is my QUIET & PEACEFUL sanctuary.
No intense vibes. No bad vibes.
No weird juju allowed.

We want to create an calm anchor that balances the
pumped up energy your event will naturally give you.

Ahhhhh. So much better.

Decide that NO event & no results are worth that level of stress.

It would be better to sell ZERO and be happy, and alive.

So remember that you are not your results.

You are not your results.

And lastly, you are not your results!

🙂 HA! Sounds easy, but I really want you to sit with that. Let it sink in.

Sometimes you’re going to stumble,
sometimes you’re going to win, win win!

Either way, you’re an all-star amazing person!

You are your joy.
You are your spirit of service.
You are your compassion.
You are love.

confident and comfortable (with a totally normal & manageable level of nerves)!

You Are Not Your Workshop Sales

Rock Your Workshop: a plan to fill your coaching spots & add six figures + in a weekend!

Okay so, you’ve all heard that selling coaching or consulting
is great CONSISTENT monthly income…
–and it is!

But how in the world can you fill all those coaching spots?
(especially if you’re not a big fan of one-on-one strategy sessions)

Now if you follow me you know, that I DO NOT SUGGEST
giving a 1-hour talk and then pitching
your private coaching 
as your main offer.

If you’ve tried it, you already know
that its generally a big leap for people to make.
Kind of like trying to go too far on a 1st date.

Its a fast way to blow it.
So pitching something more “entry level” is the way to go.

That’s why I want to talk to you about
the power of ROCKIN a WORKSHOP! 🙂

…and how it can add $18,880.00
or six- figures…multiple six figures even 7 figures to your income
(yes, it’s being done by people just like you!)

Let me break it down for you.

In fact, this is so simple,
you might want to roll your eyes at me,
or wonder why everyone isn’t doing this

…but I’ll explain that in a moment too.

And I’ll show you where to go

But I’m getting ahead of myself.
Let me give you the formula first…

funnels people into your Coaching
to help people implement what they’ve learned.

This step is all about the right content strategy at your event.

First I mentioned that offering seats at two
payments of $97 is a good idea. Here’s why.

If you offer a local workshop for free
for instance thinking this will pack the house…
sadly, you’d be mistaken.

(Good idea though! Sounds like it would work, but it really doesn’t)

Offer your workshop for free and people
won’t value your super rockin content,
and generally speaking…
most people won’t show up.


Now you can charge $97…
but the reality is that just as many
people will say yes, if its two or three
payments of $97.

It works because if I can afford $97
from my monthly budget this month,
I can probably make it work next month.

The effect on my budget isn’t any bigger.
So this is a great way, so charge fair value
for your content and make it easy for
people to afford to attend, at the same time!

And because they are financially committed
the reality is that they are more likely to attend,
value the content you share, and put it into practice!

(THIS is the ultimate goal of course!)

Let’s Talk About a Revenue Plan for Your Workshop

Let’s say you give your talk at a few places around town…
you enroll a people into your workshop…
a few here, and a few there.

You end up selling 20 tickets to your workshop.
(20 * $2 pmts of $97 = $3,880.00 in initial income)

Using the “BUTTS IN SEATS tips I
give you in this Rock Your Workshop training
you add another 20 people.

Now you have 40 peeps in the room.
(we could make this 100 or 200 but we’re going to keep it simple)

If you close just 13% of the room (a quite conservative estimate)
into your 6 mth coaching program at $500 a month
(not exactly premium pricing for private coaching)

…that’s $15,000.00 right there.
(5 people @ $3000 = $15,000.00)

+ the $3880 from tickets and you’re already at $18,880.00

That may or may not not seem like a lot of money at first.
So in a moment we’ll look at another example for those of you already rockin your biz!

1) You can repeat this every quarter
(so that alone would be $75,520.00 a year in added revenue!)

2) You can raise your rates & your closing ratio

For those of you already rockin, the results only get better.

So let’s raise your closing ratio to a more reasonable 20%
now you gain 8 new coaching client from your relatively small workshop.

And let’s say the program your offer at the end of your workshop is more like $1k a month.

8 people @ $1K/month = $8,000.00 a month in recurring monthly income.

Have a $30,000 mastermind? Now you’ve generated a quarter of a million dollars!

And let’s not even talk abbout what would happen if you got a few ore people int he room!


3) Once your private coaching is full—
Shift gears into leveraged group coaching .

Keep feeding people into your group,
your paycheck goes up,
but your hours don’t budge a bit. 🙂

Sounds pretty cool right?
because it IS! 🙂

So here’s the great news…
I know you have lots of questions

If this is so simple, why doesn’t everyone do it, right?

I believe there are at least five reasons.

First, most people think they need experience.

Here’s the truth you already know.
The only way to get experience, is to get experience.
I had never taught a workshop…

Until I sold tickets to my workshop
and realized I was now going to have to teach it!
Ack! Okay so if you’re like me you MIGHT

freak out for a second, but then you’ll breathe
and remember your just teaching what you LOVE!

😉 And that my friends, is a TON OF FUN!

Second, many people aren’t sure how to map out their content or the day.

LOTS of people ask me about
the workshop schedule,
what to do when… and why.

That’s why I give you a sample schedule,
and even the psychology behind the schedule.


Third, many people worry about making an offer at their workshop.

I totally get it, and in fact I taught several workshops
without making an offer, and no great thing came of doing that.

Meaning… I did NOT win a humanitarian award,
for NOT making an offer, in fact what generally happens,
is you leave people hanging.

Once you’ve spent a day with people
some of those folks will want to dive in deeper with you.

They love your topic, as much as YOU DO!
and they really want your help.

So yes we want to serve, and we want
to allow people a pathway to come
and work with you more closely. 🙂


Fourth, you might not feel sure you can get butts in seats.

Attracting people to a local workshop and enrolling
a few people into Coaching is a doable objective.

Still, for many who don’t have the right strategy
this all can feel extremely frustrating.

That’s why I want to give you a few of my FAV
ways to fill a workshop or live event.


Fifth, maybe you’re just hoping it will all work out.

Could be, but it will work a LOT FASTER
and BETTER when you have the answers
right from the start. 🙂

See if you can connect them to resources, other partners and friends, events, or directly by promoting their next launch. Just offer to help. That’s the first step.

TRUE STORIES: When Sponsorships & Speaking Gigs Go Wrong!

So much can go right. And on the other hand, the whole shebang can go sideways in seven seconds flat if you’re not careful. And that’s why I’m giving you lots of great training on this topic in the next couple of weeks.

When you fly on your own dime across the country, spend your hardearned money on nice outfits, and booth goodies, and hotel rooms, the pressure is really on.

Why listen to me?

The #1 way I generate leads, cash and clients for my
business, is through SPEAKING.

Not educational talks where I’m teaching, or coachy coaching. I’m talking about speaking gigs where I step to the front of the room, give a talk, and make an offer. Sink or swim.

I intentionally still keep my income tied to my speaking results. And I speak at a lots of different types of gigs from Conference Keynotes, Workshops, and Events big and small, so that I can advise you from “realworld, reallife”, in the trenches experience.

Here are 5 ways a gig can go wonky on you:

1. The Undermine: Your host starts to think that your sales success is competition for their success, and it becomes “either or” when it ideally it should be “and”.

2. The Tech Train Wreck: You get a last minute schedule change, no sound check, or equipment that doesn’t work. ACK!

3. Funked Up Feng Shui: The room set up is not conducive to selling. u-shaped seating, uncomfortably dark, narrow rooms, or hot, dark rooms in late afternoon. These are signs that converting the room is going to be a challenge.

4. Stranded in the Desert: You’ve paid thousands to have a booth, but there’s no time at your booth, no people in the booth area, and your mouth suddenly begins to feel very, very dry. Are we in the desert? Is that a vulture flying over head?

5. The Cowboy Cop: Your expert status is eroded by the host who interrupts your talk, or talks down to you in the room, or otherwiseerodes your expert status. (There’s only room for one cowboy in this town, little missy)

These are true stories from the road. (mine + those of my friends, clients, & colleagues)

And here’s the GREAT NEWS…. not ALL stories go this way!

So how you can stack the odds in your favor?
Here are just a few tips to give you a jumpstart:

#1: ACTIONS speak louder than WORDS.
Its easy to SAY you want sales to be a win-win, but those who mean it, back it up with ACTION. If the person isn’t really on board with you, your pitch, and how to make it successful, its a sign of what will come to pass at the event.

Do not step onto stage without a sound / tech check. Just make it a rule, and stick to it. Don’t ever let someone shove you on the stage unprepared. You need to step on stage, and have what you need, and your host should support you in that too!

If not? You take care of you!

You want to know as much as you can about the space, and again if its not ideal, see what you can change.
U-shaped seating for instance, does not sell as well as classroom, and it generally only take minutes to shuffle chairs, so take the time sure your room is set up right!

Seemingly small details like this add to your profit or diminish it.

I learned this the hard way by “trustingthat an event team would handle things right, and it was an expensivemistake
(in time, energy and money).

We could go into lots details here, but here are a few things you want to know.

Where will the booths be? And how will your host help get people there?
Get answers before you say yes.

Your host can help seed your sale, set up your sale, and build your expert status, or they can chop you off at the knees.

Look and listen for the signs ahead of time so you’re partnering with people who have your back and speak highly of you.

When you choose the right partner, venue, and opportunity, and you’re strategic about how you handle you can create a HUGE wave of clients, cash, and visibility for your business!

With the right planning, the right questions, and the right strategy you can choose the right events for you, and you can create a BIG WIN for you and your host too!

Workshop it! Get your workshop going in 5 steps!

Hosting a workshop can be a scary thing.
You might have heard the story of how (and why) I led my first workshop.

The economy was tanking, and our financial status was was rough after a high-risk pregnancy + a hospital stay on bed rest + baby Gavin’s stay in the Neonatal ICU, left us swamped with medical bills.

t was really the only thing I figured I could sell!
I didn’t have a product.
I didn’t have a “program”.

But somehow I figured if I could get some people in a room for a few hours, I could teach them something valuable and it would all work it. And so it was.

(If you’re curious I’ll tell you the story here.)

I get asked a lot by people starting out,
“I dont’ know what to offer at the end of my talk!”
and if you like to teach, a workshop is a great place to start!

Here are a few simple tips on getting started:

1. Pick a date! (its the only way to avoid getting stuck in perpetual prep mode)
2. Choose an offer you can make at the end of your talk. (coaching? vip days?)
3. Choose your workshop topic so it feeds into the offer you will make at the end.
4. Start booking talks around town for 2-3 months leading up to your workshop, so that you can sell tickets and get butts in seats! (same topic as your event just a shorter “signature talk” version of it)
5. Make your workshop ticket offer extra juicy by considering ways to beef it up (can you tell I’ve eating a lot of protein!) 😉

  • Add a coaching session with the workshop ticket
  • Add “bring a guest for free”
  • Add a supplemental audio or video program
