Why do some messages (and some people) resonate stronger than others?

What separates a “professional and polished” speaker, from one who motivates and moves audiences?

How did I get booked all the time as a speaker even when all I had to show for myself was a crappy one sheet with a hideous looking Sears photo?

And what the heck do the Foo Fighters have to do with ANYTHING?????

Well Dave Grohl hit the nail on the head last night in his Grammy acceptance speech for the Foo Fioghters. But before you scroll down to the bottom and watch the video of his speech, please hear me out.

While watching his acceptance speech,
I was literally (just ask my husband) throwing my hands in the air shouting
“AMEN, Dave! Tell it like it is!!”

It made me think about my Command Any Room program, which is like “the little engine that could”. Its my first product, and yet it was a huge success, and it just keeps selling even when I’m not promoting it.

Its not super fancy. Wasn’t recorded in a big studio. But its great content. I poured my heart and soul into it, years of books read, speeches booked, talks crafted, and delivered.

I’ve walked out empty handed. I’ve walked out with thousands.
Everything that failed, and everything that flew…. it all got boiled down into one program that I was excited to share with you.

And for all those reasons, it resonates with people, and it gets them results. You can’t fake that.

Now you can buy the program, and copy it, and try to sell it yourself (and YES someone basically DID do this!) and guess what? It won’t ever be as successful, because you can’t fake “real”.

The best news is that to be successful, you don’t have to do any of it perfectly.
But you do need to be your own, true imperfect self.

You don’t need to go to Toastmasters and count your umms and ahhhhs. You don’t need to read from a perfectly crafted script and tell the same canned stories every time you talk.

Your message has to come from your heart, your soul, your experience. And when it does, and you share that with the world, it will resonate deeply with exactly the right people.

That’s what the Foo Fighters did, its why they won, and Dave Grohl summed it all up perfectly. Please watch the whole speech, listen, and hear what he’s saying. He’s speaking to you!

THE GRAMMY PEOPLE PULLED VIDEO, so let’s hear a resounding BOOOOOOO! Here is Dave’s speech:

“This is a great honour, because this record was a special record for our band. Rather than go to the best studio in the world down the street in Hollywood and rather than use all of the fanciest computers that money can buy, we made this one in my garage with some microphones and a tape machine…

“To me this award means a lot because it shows that the human element of music is what’s important. Singing into a microphone and learning to play an instrument and learning to do your craft, that’s the most important thing for people to do.

“It’s not about being perfect, it’s not about sounding absolutely correct, it’s not about what goes on in a computer. It’s about what goes on in here [your heart] and what goes on in here [your head].”
