I’ve been doing a lot of writing and thinking as I’ve been preparing for today’s teleclass Answer the Call: Discover How to Cash in Big, Speaking for Free!

I’m going to share a story on the call today about a time I was getting ready to go speak at a pretty high-power office meeting, for a swanky commercial real estate firm downtown. (this was before the market tanked)

Mind you, I’m about 7 months pregnant at the time and still somewhat new to speaking.

And while I’m waiting to go in and speak to this group and try to sell tickets to a workshop coming up, a lady sits next to me in the lobby.

She turns to me and says, “just to warn you…. those guys in there” (pointing to the sharp-suited men, behind the glass wall conference room to our right)

“They will walk out out on you,
right in the middle of your talk if its not really, really good.
They don’t care. They don’t have the time to sit and listen
to someone for an hour.”

Greeeeat.

So now I’m pretty sure I want to leave. Or cry.
Or leave while crying.

I’m not going to tell you what happened next or it will ruin it for tomorrow’s call, but its important to remember that when you’re stepping up and putting yourself out there, there’s only one thing you can count on.

Anything can happen!

So you’ve got have a plan and some strategies to rely on.

Someone or something can throw you off your game in at a moment’s notice, and a plan of action can help you stay calm.

Here are a few helpful tips for you in case you get knocked off balance before an important phone call, sales presentation, or group presentation.

1. Have a GREAT MOOD playlist you can listen to whenever you need a boost. Mine includes: BLOW! by Kesha, Who Runs the World by Beyonce, I Gotta Feelin by the Black Eyed Peas, Be Somebody by Kings of Leon, and lots of other high energy power tunes.

2. Keep a success journal or “money list” where you keep a list of top successes, the big wins, and pictures and testimonials from your most raving fans!

3. Have a go to friend or colleague that you can call, and count on, to remind you stay in your power.

4. Move your body! Change your physical body and you’ll help change your state.

Have a few “power moves” to help you get pumped up if you’re feeling down (like clapping, dancing, or jumping jacks).

Plus a move or to that will help you get calm and centered too (like deep breathing exercises, Tai Chi, a Yoga pose or two)

These all may sound overly simplistic. However do not overlook their power. Small shifts in your tone, energy and outlook have a big impact on your ability to attract and close new clients!

Put these tips to use and let us know what happens! Hope to see you on the call!

Until we meet again…

Remember to speak your message and your mission in a way that converts more paying clients.
Serve your purpose in a bigger, brighter way.
Grow your business, do what you love ,and make more money!

Be well!
