Have you ever wondered how to get booked to speak to groups? What do you need to have ready? Many of you are already speaking to groups, or WANT to speak to groups to sell, gain visibility, and list build, but you aren’t sure how to get started! (or how to get more opportunities)

Since I get lots of questions on speaking, and booking speeches, I thought I’d answer them here so everyone could power up their results!

Every time you speak to a group (of 5, or 50, or 500) you get to:

• Attract new clients like crazy!

• Build and grow your list with people who genuinely know and like you!

• Sell more of your products and services

• Gain greater name recognition

• Add a revenue stream to your coaching or consulting business

• Leave with pile of referrals & testimonials

Plus, you’ll gain lots of momentum in a relatively small amount of time AND get to leverage the power of one to many.

QUESTION #1:

DO I NEED TO HAVE MY TALK OR PRESENTATION WRITTEN BEFORE I START BOOKING SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS?

Kristin says: No!

As long as you are booking your speaking gigs at least 30 days out, (which you’ll likely be doing anyway) you’re fine! In fact, booking the gig first is the perfect way to finally get motivated to write your a profitable presentation that sells!

This is exactly how I created each of my programs from Memory Made Easy for Business, Presentation Gravity, and most recently Presentation Memory Power! Each one of these programs was a title and a group of take-aways….and then I immediately started booking.

Hot tip: If no one is interested in your talk title— you saved yourself A LOT of time and energy, because now you don’t need to write the whole talk! And when lots of people are booking your talk, digging your topic and the benefits it offers, you know you have hit!

QUESTION #2:

WHAT DO I NEED TO HAVE READY IN ORDER TO BOOK SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS / PRESENTATIONS?

Kristin Says: Its simple!

In order to get booked to speak you really just need to have THREE basic things ready to go:

• a great “sticky” talk title

• 3-5 strong take-away’s, filled with benefits, so that people quickly know what they will get from their time with you.

• a one sheet on your talk (put a headline, talk title, picture, bullet points, and a few testimonials + your contact info

Okay if you REALLY want to get tricky you can link to short video sample of you speaking— but I spoke for YEARS successfully without this. 100% NOT NECESSARY.

QUESTION #3:

WHO SHOULD I CALL TO BOOK SPEAKING GIGS AND EVENTS?

Kristin Says: Start creating a list of:

• Places where your clients like to network (networking groups & Chambers)

• Business / Industry Associations and clubs your clients are members of

• Businesses who’s employees are your clients

• Events that your clients attend (seminars, tradeshows, conferences)

Use google, newspapers, magazines, your own network, and referrals to find additional places! You’ll be shocked how many opportunities there are!

Keep your eyes out for our next post, because I’m going to share some super simple tips for how to jump on the phone and fill your calendar with lots of great speaking (and money-making) opportunities that are waiting right in your own backyard!
